Horizontal Lines is a collection of minimalist ambient soundscapes.
This is intended as immersive listening. I consider it sounds best through headphones, or at quite loud volume from speakers. It probably doesn't transmit as well via laptop speakers, though I accept that may well be the most likely way it is heard.
Making this music was an exercise in trusting my instincts.
I try to achieve minimalism by a series of reductions. I start with a lot and I challenge myself to take as much away as possible whilst leaving a structure that can still stand. Some of these pieces were once quite elaborate, even the stark No Mirrors, No Clocks.
This is the first collection I have released with individual tracks. Given the form of the majority of the content, it would have been a very easy set of works for me to sequence as a continuous mix. There is a narrative to this LP, but each piece can happily exist alone.
